The best stretch of spring in Rome

Right Now in Rome

The Best of Rome at the End of April

Late April into early May is one of the best windows of the year to be in Rome. Reliable weather, long light, and a short stretch before summer crowds hit. Here's what I'd actually be doing right now.

The Gardens Are in Bloom

The Roseto Comunale is open and the roses are coming in. Pair it with the Orange Garden and the keyhole view at the Knights of Malta. Twenty minutes of walking and you've covered three of the best views in the city.

A Drink With a View

Rome's rooftop bars are back for the season and the weather right now is exactly why you book one. Warm enough to sit out without a jacket, cool enough that you're not melting, and the light over the rooftops between 7 and 8 is the best it gets all year. This is worth planning an evening around.

Spring Flavors at the Markets

Campo de' Fiori, Testaccio, and Trionfale are full of artichokes, fava beans, and the first strawberries. Even if you're not cooking, the walk through is worth it. End at a local trattoria and order whatever's in season.

A Day Trip Worth Taking

If you have an extra day on your Rome trip, late spring is the right time to use it on Florence. The train is fast, the weather is perfect, and the city is easier to walk than at any other point in the year. Mikayla and I just published our full guide to Florence in May with everything you need to plan it.
