Planning a Colosseum Visit? Read This First

This Week:

​The Colosseum is one of the first things people put on their Rome list, and it's also one of the places where a little planning goes a long way. I've updated my guide for 2026 with new transport options, current ticket prices, and the practical details that will save you time and frustration when you get there.

When and How to visit

⏰ Go when they open at 8:30 or about an hour before last entry. Midday is when the crowds peak and there's no shade inside in summer.

🚉 Metro Line C now has a stop at the Colosseum, which is a big improvement if you're connecting through San Giovanni

📅 Even in low season weekends get busy. I cover the best days and months in the full guide.

Colosseum Tickets

🎟️ Standard entry is 16 euros and includes the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. The Full Experience is 22 euros and opens up the underground, arena floor, and upper tiers.

🪪 All tickets are nominative for 2026, so you'll need photo ID at the entrance

Best Colosseum Tours

The Colosseum is one of those places where having a guide changes the whole experience and gets you into areas you can't visit on your own. Walks of Italy is who I recommend - here are my top recommendations:
